Best Time for an Amalfi Coast Wedding
Best Time for an Amalfi Coast Wedding: A Month-by-Month Guide
Picture your ceremony hour on the Amalfi Coast. Is the terrace warm enough for guests to linger until the sky turns pink, or is there a soft breeze and a cooler light on the sea? The month you choose changes the weather, the crowds, the price of everything and the way your wedding film will look. This guide takes you through the year, month by month, so you can choose the best time for an Amalfi Coast wedding with real numbers in front of you.

We are Luciano and Emilia of Echo of Journey, wedding filmmakers based in Maiori, on the coast itself. The figures below come from public travel sources, which we name in each section, and the advice on light and filming comes from our own work. Weather is never guaranteed, so read the numbers as a guide and not as a promise.
The short answer: when is the best time for an Amalfi Coast wedding?
For most couples the sweet spot is late spring and early autumn: from May to June, and September into early October. Travel guide Responsible Travel names April to early July and September as the best months on the coast, and Positano.com notes that May and June bring fewer visitors and generally lower prices than July and August. These are also the months we would look at first, because the light is soft and the coast is easier to move around in. July and August are the hottest, busiest and most expensive weeks, but they suit couples who want swimming, boats and late dinners on the terrace.
Amalfi Coast weather month by month
The table below uses the monthly minimum and maximum temperatures and the rainfall from the weather chart on Responsible Travel’s Amalfi Coast guide. Other sources give slightly different averages, so treat every figure as indicative and ask your planner for the latest forecast when your date gets closer.
| Month | Temperature (min–max) | Rainfall |
|---|---|---|
| March | 5–12 °C | 66 mm |
| April | 8–16 °C | 57 mm |
| May | 12–20 °C | 40 mm |
| June | 15–24 °C | 26 mm |
| July | 18–27 °C | 24 mm |
| August | 18–27 °C | 39 mm |
| September | 16–24 °C | 48 mm |
| October | 12–19 °C | 89 mm |
| November | 8–15 °C | 119 mm |
July is the driest month in that chart and November the wettest. The same guide gives a sea temperature of about 25 °C in July and 26 °C in August, which is why summer weddings often include a swim or a boat day.
April and May: blossom, quiet trails and cooler evenings
Spring is gentle. The Euronews travel report calls April and May “the prime months on the coast” and describes lemon groves fragrant with flowers in late May. Evenings are cool, so plan for a wrap or jacket for the bride and a covered space for dinner. For the film, spring light is soft and green, and the villages feel calm, which suits intimate weddings and elopements.
June: long days and the driest start to summer
June sits at 15–24 °C with only 26 mm of rain in the chart above, so it is one of the most reliable months for an outdoor ceremony. Days are long, which gives you generous golden hour. Responsible Travel notes that school holidays begin in mid-June and the coast becomes busier, so book accommodation for your guests early.
July and August: peak summer
This is the high season. Positano.com says most events on the coast take place in July and August and that these are months of high-season crowds. Expect hotels and venues to be booked far ahead, the heat to build in the afternoon and the roads to be slow. If you marry in summer, schedule the ceremony late in the day, give guests shade and water, and keep portraits for the hour before sunset. Summer evenings feel magical on film, with warm light and long shadows on the terrace.

September and early October: warm sea, softer crowds
September is the month many planners love: 16–24 °C, 48 mm of rain and a sea still warm from summer. Positano.com says that by September most tourists have left. Responsible Travel adds that October is when the tourist season ends and some summer resorts and shops close, especially on Capri, and that thunderstorms are possible. October has more rain (89 mm in the chart), so a covered back-up plan is not optional. If you are dreaming of a specific venue, ask when it opens and closes: the Euronews report says Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi is one of the first hotels to open in mid-March and the last to close in October, and every property keeps its own calendar.
November to March: quiet, atmospheric, less certain
Winter on the coast is quiet. Responsible Travel notes that some hotels close in January and that some ferries are suspended in bad weather or end for the season in December, including the Naples to Sorrento shuttle. Positano.com says many cafés and restaurants close and the villages almost empty out. A winter wedding can be intimate and very atmospheric, but you need a confirmed venue, a solid indoor plan and flexible guests. We would not recommend it for a large group travelling from overseas.

A sample three-day wedding week
Many couples now stretch the celebration over several days. This is a suggested structure, not a fixed rule, and it works in any month:
- Day 1, arrival and welcome dinner. Guests arrive, the couple greets everyone, and dinner is relaxed and local. Read more in our guide to the welcome dinner.
- Day 2, the wedding. Morning preparations, a ceremony in the late afternoon, a long dinner and dancing. This is the day your film follows from first light to last dance.
- Day 3, a slow goodbye. Brunch, a boat or a walk by the sea, and time for guests to say thank you. Our article on the multi-day Amalfi Coast wedding goes deeper.
How the season changes your wedding film
Light is the first thing a filmmaker thinks about. In spring and autumn the sun is lower and softer for longer, so portraits and the ceremony can happen over a wider window. In midsummer the best light is late, and the middle of the day is bright and hard. Wind, sea haze and rain change the mood completely, and a good film uses all of it. We look at your venue, your date and the sunset time during our planning calls, and we build the day around the hours when the place looks its best. Watch some of our wedding films to see how each season feels on screen.
Your planning checklist
- Choose two or three possible months, then ask your venue and planner which dates are free.
- Check the opening dates of your hotel, your venue and the ferries your guests will use.
- Plan a covered or indoor option for every outdoor moment, especially in October and from November onwards.
- Read our guide to marriage paperwork in Italy so the legal steps match your timeline.
- Book your photographer and videographer as soon as you have a date; our article on how far in advance to book explains the timing.
- Compare venues in our guide to Amalfi Coast wedding venues and in the wedding timeline for destination couples.
Mistakes to avoid
Choosing a date before you have checked the venue calendar is the most common one. Planning an outdoor ceremony at midday in August is another, because guests suffer in the heat and the footage looks flat. Couples also forget that ferry services change outside summer, so plan how guests will get home after a late dinner. And finally, do not leave the film to the end of your planning; our guide on booking timelines explains why early is better.

Frequently asked questions
