Plan a French Riviera Wedding from the US: A Guide
Most of the couples who write to us about the French Riviera are planning from far away: a living room in New York, a late-night video call across time zones, a spreadsheet that keeps growing. The good news is that a Riviera wedding is very doable from abroad, as long as you build your team in the right order. This is the order we would suggest, and where a wedding film fits in.

What is the right order for hiring vendors?
Start with the venue and date, then the planner, then the creative team. Venues on the coast are the bottleneck: French Wedding Style notes that coveted venues often sell out 12 to 18 months in advance during the May to September peak, so the date and the venue come before anything else. If you are still comparing places, start with our guide to French Riviera wedding venues. Once those are fixed, a local planner can guide the rest.
Why hire a French Riviera wedding planner
A planner who works on the coast knows the venues, the caterers, the transport and the town hall paperwork, and speaks both languages. For couples abroad, that local knowledge is the difference between a calm planning process and a stressful one. French Wedding Style maintains a curated directory of wedding planners in the South of France, several of whom work with international couples and cover the Côte d’Azur. As an example of the kind of team behind a Riviera celebration, the real wedding at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild featured on French Wedding Style credits a Côte d’Azur planner, photographer and florist by name.
French Riviera wedding florists and the look of your day
Flowers do more than decorate on this coast; they carry the palette of the sea, the stone and the gardens. Florists who work across the South of France are listed in the French Wedding Style florist directory, with details on whether they work with international couples. The choice of florist is best made together with your planner once the date and venue are fixed.
Where does the wedding videographer fit?
Book your videographer soon after the venue and planner, because the best dates are held by whoever commits first. A wedding film is a story about the people in the room, so we like to speak with couples well before the day: about the venue, the timeline, the traditions and the moments they cannot miss. Our page on wedding videography on the French Riviera shows how we work with international couples, and the story of Laura and Nathan’s wedding in Nice is a good example of the result.
Legal ceremony, symbolic ceremony and paperwork
The French government’s official guide to marriage in France explains that a marriage can be celebrated in a commune where at least one spouse, or one spouse’s parent, has a durable link through domicile or residence, and that residence means at least one month of continuous habitation before the announcements are published. Foreign couples follow the same rules, with a separate route through their consulate when both spouses are foreigners living abroad. According to French Wedding Style’s guide to planning a wedding on the Riviera, most international couples therefore marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony on the Riviera. Always confirm the current rules with the relevant town hall or your consulate; this is not legal advice.
A simple timeline for couples abroad
12 to 18 months before: choose date and venue. 10 to 12 months: hire your planner and lock in your key creative vendors, including the wedding videographer. 6 to 9 months: florals, catering, accommodation blocks and guest transport. 2 to 3 months: confirm schedule, music and the moments you want filmed. Encourage guests to arrive one or two days early; Nice Côte d’Azur airport is the main gateway, about 30 minutes from many major destinations.
What does a Riviera wedding cost?
Budgets vary enormously. French Wedding Style gives a general range of €50,000 to €200,000 or more depending on guest count and customization, with luxury venues starting at around €15,000 per day, and the Villa Ephrussi events page itself states that exclusive hire begins at €100,000. Our wedding films on the French Riviera typically range from €5,500 to €7,500, and we are happy to talk through what is included.
If you are at the beginning of the planning journey, send us your date and venue ideas and we will tell you honestly whether we are available and how we would film it.
